If you don't care about context just skip to the last paragraph, though the context is arguably important.
I had just moved away from my family after several years of helping my mom retire. I just started this new work that was paying more than I've made in my life, reasonably speaking. I barely got to do this for a month before my transmission went out, and I didn't have $3365 stashed away yet to cover this. If I didn't get this fixed, I'd be forced to move back in with my parents and working for scraps part time to get another vehicle.
The staff at A2Z witnessed me crying to my brother on the phone, praying despite our lack of communication over the years he'd be willing to loan me the money. Thankfully he did. They also later replaced a busted radiator hose for ~$192. Shortly after I went to them for an oil change that comes with a "complimentary 35-Point Inspection", after which they quoted me on maintenance they figure I'd need in the near future.
This included a quote to replace all four rotors and pads; for $1038. I didn't say anything at the time but I'm sure my face said that seemed a bit pricey to me, so I opted for a second opinion and went to a reliable mechanic my family has known for years, Vern's Automotive in Prairie du Rocher, IL.
I actually watched him remove my breaks, and when he took the back ones off the amount of dust that fell out of there surprised him. He told me these brakes were never even looked at because they still have the factory clips. Me not being mechanically inclined, I wouldn't have known any better. He also told me my back brakes will hold a little while longer and replaces my front pads and rotors in about an hour. My bill? $351. He also told me I was likely gouged on the transmission work to, though he personally chooses not to work on transmissions at his age due to the labor involved.
To A2Z's credit, the transmission work seems sound; as of today it's still running and I can't disregard that. However I don't care for dishonest practices. The kind of place that would try to sell me something that was never properly inspected to begin with though presented as though it were; for more than it's worth, isn't the kind of place I'd continue doing business with. Much as I'd rather give one star, as I said the work I'm still paying my brother back for, seems to still be in one piece.
So... The actual repairs we did on your vehicle ( transmission) is running good ! ? Your 2 start review is based on work we didn't do??
